Business growth is never an accident; it happens as a result of careful planning, clearly defined goals and a focused strategy.

Before tackling growth opportunities though, it is important to define what we mean by business growth. To many, it is as simple as saying the business is bigger, either in terms of turnover or EBIT, than at the same stage last year. But if the market has grown 20% year on year and an individual business within that market has increased turnover 5% year on year, has that business really grown? Or does the fact that this individual business has failed to keep up with the average mean it has gone backwards during the year?
